Vincent Hewett (b. 1977, Bath, UK)
Vincent's practice integrates a diverse set of experiences in Kabbalah, meditation, mysticism, altered states of consciousness, Jungian psychology and dreamwork, artificial intelligence, and a more mainstream career in architecture and design. His works become a means of mediating these various experiences through the structured framework of painting and video. Taking the human subconscious as his arena, Vincent's work questions mechanisms of meaning-making, exploring the symbolic associations and processes through which we construct language, narrative - and ourselves. In exploring this territory, Vincent draws on his own dreamscapes, video footage and poetry, often collaborating with AI technologies like geometric algorithms, text generators and automated voice software, to conjure layered compositions that blur the boundaries and binaries we maintain between nature / culture, human / robot, order/creativity, dreamworld / and 'reality', revealing the fragility and precarity of the semiotic architecture beneath.
He has a diploma in General Art and Design, a Degree in Interior Architecture & Design and a Masters in Scenography. His work has been shown at the Safehouse, and Candid Arts Trust, London and The Lloyd Gill Gallery, Weston-Super-Mare.
